Dr. Starr has extensive experience analyzing issues of consumer behavior, including spending, saving, use of financial services, health insurance, utilization of healthcare services, and purchases and leasing of motor vehicles. Her work on competition-related topics includes markets for banking services, markets for physician services, and the role of price increases in growth of healthcare spending. Before joining GMA, she was a senior economist in the research division at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and a professor of economics at American University in Washington, DC. Her research has been published in such outlets as the American Economic Review, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Antitrust Bulletin, and Economic Inquiry.
